Republic of Azerbaijan reelected as a member of WCO Finance Committee

The 132nd session of the Customs Cooperation Council was held at the headquarters of the World Customs Organization in Brussels on June 28-30.
The delegation led by chairman of the State Customs Committee, customs service Lieutenant-General Safar Mehdiyev represented the Republic of Azerbaijan at the event.
The protocols of the 129/130th sessions and 131st session of the Customs Cooperation Council were approved on the first day of the session.
Then, chairman of the Council Enrique Canon and WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya made reports.
Afterwards, discussion of the issues raised at the 78th and 79th session of the Political Commission was started. These were issues on the Action Plan for the Economic Competitiveness Package, Legal Compliance Package, Revenue Package Phase III Action Plan, SAFE Framework of Standards and aviation security.
Among the political issues e-trade and security initiative, fight against illegal financial flows, customs-tax cooperation, activity assessment, Revised Kyoto Convention, study of the use of additional languages at the WCO, 2016/2017 – 2018/2019 Strategic Plan: 2018/2019 Operation Plan were also reviewed and report of the Audit Committee was heard.
Moreover, discussions were held on technical issues – tariff and trade. Prior to the discussions, Director of WCO's Tariff and Trade Affairs Directorate Ping Liu made a report.
The first day of the session ended with the meeting of the heads of the delegations.
On June 29, the session continued discussions on technical issues – control and facilitation, capacity building.
WCO Director of Compliance and Facilitation Ana Hinojosa made report on the first issue, Director of the WCO Capacity Building Directorate Ernani Checcucci on the second issue.
Moreover, issues on WCO membership were also discussed.
Discussions on the budget and financial issues and elections to the World Customs Organization were held on the last day of the session on June 30. Kunio Mikuriya was reelected as Secretary General of the World Customs Organization and Enrique Canon as chairman of the Customs Cooperation Council.
It is gratifying that the Republic of Azerbaijan was reelected as a member of the WCO Finance Committee for 2018-2019.
Presentation on holding the IT Conference and Exhibition of the World Customs Organization in Azerbaijan on June 12-14, 2019, was held as part of the 132nd session of the Customs Cooperation Council and a special video was screened on Azerbaijan.
