Digital trade hub of GUAM member states to be created

Roundtable on the creation of Digital Trade Hub of GUAM member states was held at the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv last month.

The event was organized in line with the action plan on boosting sector cooperation of GUAM.

Chief of the Main Department for Activity Assessment and Development Programs of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, customs service Major-General Igbal Babayev attended the meeting.

Program coordinator of the GUAM Secretariat Sabuhi Temirov gave information about the initiative on GUAM member states' digital trade hub and expectations from the project. The participants of the roundtable discussed the prospects of applying digital technologies in the development of free trade zone and GUAM transport corridor, as well as the use of digital trade hub by the small- and medium-size businesses of the GUAM member states. Chief of the Main Department for Activity Assessment and Development Programs of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan Igbal Babayev presented general concept of GUAM's digital trade hub. Head of BEST Solutions company Jana Krimpe underlined the importance of working out and adopting the concept of the recognition of e-signatures, including mobile signatures during customs clearance of goods and transport vehicles.

At the end of the meeting a decision was made to set up an initiative group for realizing the project Digital Trade Hub of GUAM member states, to prepare proposals on transborder services among GUAM member states, as well as activity of the Digital Trade Hub of GUAM member states.

A meeting of the experts attending the GUAM-Japan workshop on the promotion of small- and medium-size business was also held as part of the roundtable. The experts reached an agreement on preparing draft proposals on the possible projects in this sphere and presenting remarks on the project.
