A webinar on "Priorities for strengthening international cooperation in the fight against smuggling" was held at the Regional Office for Capacity Building for the World Customs Organization Europe Region on March 16.
The event was organized by the regional office. The webinar was attended by more than 70 representatives of the customs administrations of 21 countries of the World Customs Organization for the European region, including employees of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The aim was to review the measures for preventing smuggling, promotion of international cooperation and investigative strategies, as well as the latest achievements.
Making a keynote speech at the event, head of the Regional Office for Capacity Building for the WCO Europe Region Eser Chengel underlined the importance of cooperation and regional discussions in the fight against smuggling at the level of strategic cooperation.
Then, experts from the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center (CARICC), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC) made speeches.
The experts gave information about the achievements in the fight against smuggling, relevant training topics on capacity building for customs officers, work done to strengthen international relations and develop and coordinate relations with the customs bodies and other law enforcement agencies of the member states.
