Meeting with bp delegation held at State Customs Committee
On May 18, chairman of the State Customs Committee, customs service Colonel-General Safar Mehdiyev met with the delegation led by Gary Jones, bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.
Welcoming the guests, chairman of the State Customs Committee Safar Mehdiyev praised the work done by the bp for the development of the oil sector in our country.
Speaking about the relations between bp, the biggest oil company operating in Azerbaijan, and customs bodies, the chairman of the Committee said the customs authorities were properly fulfilling their tasks, measures were being taken to ensure customs control and customs clearance more effectively.
“The reforms carried out in the customs bodies under the leadership of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev not only ensure the country’s economic security, but also contribute to improving entrepreneurial environment and developing business climate,” said the chairman of the Committee and spoke about the activity of customs bodies, noted that effective dialogue had been established with entrepreneurs, transparency had been ensured, customs procedures simplified and legislative framework improved.
The chairman of the Committee gave information about the positive results of the reforms, spoke about the achievements gained over the recent years in the fiscal sphere, in the fight against smuggling, illicit drug trafficking.
The chairman of the State Customs Committee underlined that customs control was carried out at all customs checkpoints with the use of the state-of-the-art equipment, new projects were implemented to increase the capacity of border checkpoints, Azerbaijani customs bodies had gained great achievements in the field of information technologies, gave information about the new projects.
Safar Mehdiyev emphasized that application of the Green corridor gating system had created favorable conditions for the development of business, trade facilitation, further improvement of entrepreneurial environment, ensuring of transparency, facilitation of the international trade, increase of the country’s export potential.
A presentation was made for the guests on the e-information systems of the State Customs Committee.
Expressing gratitude for warm welcome, Gary Jones, bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey, talked about the direct positive relations with the State Customs Committee, highly appreciated the mutual cooperation.
Speaking about the great role of customs bodies in the large-scaled projects implemented by the company, Gary Jones said the cooperation with the customs system was on the high level, talked about the prospects of long-term relations. Noting that the achievements gained by Azerbaijan’s customs bodies especially in the field of information technologies had made great and pleasant impressions on him, Gary Jones expressed confidence that those achievements would be continuous.
At the end of the meeting, chairman of the State Customs Committee Safar Mehdiyev awarded the jubilee medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan “The 30th anniversary of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan (1992-2022)” to Gary Jones, bp Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, bp Vice President for the Caspian region, Communications and Advocacy.
