State Customs Committee chairman meets director of Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency

On March 29, chairman of the State Customs Committee, customs service Colonel-General Safar Mehdiyev met director of Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) Marcello Minenna.

Chairman of the State Customs Committee Safar Mehdiyev expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy, said productive relations had been established in all spheres, including customs sphere.

Giving information about the reforms carried out in the customs system under the leadership of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev over the recent years, the chairman of the Committee said thanks to the innovations and innovative projects, significant achievements had been made in terms of facilitating customs operations, accelerating border crossing procedures, minimizing public servant-citizen contacts. 

Safar Mehdiyev praised partnership with the Italian customs service as part of the Twinning Project “Support to the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the accession to the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure, Convention on Simplification of Formalities in Trade in Goods and implementation of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS)”, expressed confidence that cooperation would be continued in this regard. 

Director of Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) Marcello Minenna expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underlined that productive work had been done with regard to the project. 

Marcello Minenna said that cooperation with Azerbaijan’s customs service was of special importance for the agency, noted that there were broad opportunities for the development of relations, expressed confidence that the twinning project would contribute to the future cooperation. 

Views were exchanged on some issues of mutual interest. 

It should be noted that the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency (ADM) are twinning partners. The project is implemented by the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency with the support of the European Union. The aim of the Twinning Project is to ensure relations between Azerbaijan and EU customs systems and facilitation of trade between the sides.
